For decades, the Wallace Theater stood in the heart of downtown Levelland, a place where neighbors gathered, stories were shared, and memories were made. But over time, the lights dimmed, the doors closed, and the building sat quiet.
Still, the Wallace never lost its place in the hearts of the people who remembered what it once was and believed in what it could be again.
In 2015, a group of community members began to imagine a different future. What if this old theater could come back to life? What if it could once again serve as a space for connection, creativity, and culture in West Texas?
That question sparked a ten-year journey filled with vision, grit, and unwavering support from Levelland and beyond.
One of the earliest champions of that vision was George Keeling. In 2002, long before the nonprofit existed or major renovations started, George cleaned out and stabilized the theater—removing debris, uncovering vintage murals, and leading structural work with youth volunteers. After his passing in 2016, his family and a dedicated board carried forward his vision.
Step by step, the Wallace was brought back. Local fundraising, regional partnerships, and volunteer hours turned a fading building into a vibrant one. The restoration honored the theater’s original character while adding everything needed for a modern arts space, including a state-of-the-art sound system and the striking new outdoor stair entrance.
The Wallace is more than a building. It is a symbol of what happens when a community shows up and invests in something meaningful.
On September 20, 2025, the Wallace Theater will officially reopen its doors to the public. This grand opening marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that welcomes the community back to a space built for gathering, storytelling, and shared experience.
In the meantime, we are hosting soft-opening events and exclusive gatherings for those who have played a vital role in this journey. Members of our Leadership Circle will be the first to experience the renewed Wallace through private performances and behind-the-scenes access.
